Fethiye
Fethiye is well sited for access to some of the region's
ancient sites, many of which date from the time when this
area was the independent kingdom of Lycia. The best beaches,
around the Ölüdeniz lagoon, are now much too crowded
for comfort, but Fethiye is still a real market town and
has been able to spread to accommodate increased tourist
traffic.
Fethiye itself occupies the site of the Lycian city of Telmessos,
little of which remains other than the impressive ancient
theatre, which was only unearthed in 1992, and a number
of Lycian rock tombs on the hillside above the bus station.
You can also visit the remains of the medieval fortress,
on the hillside behind the harbour area of town.

Calis
Beach
If your idea of a holiday is lazing
in the sun on a beach or by the pool, than Calis Beach is
for you. The shingle beach stretches for 4 km with hotels,
bars and restaurants on the beach front road which runs
along it.
The atmosphere is very informal and relaxed here, making
it ideal for sun-worshippers and family holidays. If you
want to spend some livelier hours, than take a dolmus ride
to nearby Fethiye, with its colourful harbour, shops, and
nightlife.

(Blue Lagoon)
Olu Deniz, a beautiful inland bay that stretches behind
the cape, is now closed to yachts.
The Blue Lagoon of Olu deniz has calm, crytal clear waters
which makes it ideal for a variety of water sports and
a very safe place for children to swim. Part of the lagoon
is now a protected area (and it is a national park).

| Dalyan
(Caunos)
Dalyan is a small village built along one side of the Dalyan
river, close to the ancient site of Caunos.
A group of spectacular Lycian tombs are carved into the
cliff face onto the opposite side of the river.
The pretty riverside village of Dalyan offers many diversions
including impressive rock tombs, the atmospheric site of
ancient Caunos and famous mud baths.

(Ghost Town)
A few kilometers from Fethiye, climbing past the ancient
fortress and rock tomb of King Amyntas, the pine trees give
way to the bucolic landscape of the Kaya Village.
Here a dwindling number of local families till the land
and tend their animals. Some of the old Greek stone houses
have been carefully restored to provide atmospheric and
peaceful holiday homes. Visitors can walk, cycle or even
horse-ride around the pathways and lanes of the valley,
pausing at the simple teahouses, restaurants and general
stores or continuing the few kilometers down to the Gemiler
Beach.

Saklikent
A natural wonder, the resulting canyon is 300 metres deep
and 18 kilometers long and offers visitors one of the most
breathtaking excursions in all of Turkey.
Saklikent Gorge has walls
reaching a height of 300 metres and is navigateable for
the first 18 kilometres. Saklikent in Turkish means "Hidden City"..
The walls are so high that they cut out most of the sunlight
and the fresh spring waters that flow through are freezing
cold!.
A cool refuge on hot summer days, Saklikent Gorge is a
favourite picnic spot where rustic restaurants overhanging
the river serve delicious fresh trout and other local delicacies.

Patara
Beach
In the heart of Lycia Patara
is best known for its beach, eighteen kilometers of soft
white sand, backed by majestic dunes and in recent years
the winner of a "best beach
in the world" survey in the Sunday Times.
Patara beach should not be missed with its gorgeous landscape
and great swimming. It is a national park and home to many
birds, also the breeding ground of the endangered Loggerhead
turtle.
The beach is an 18 kilometer-long strip of sand bordered
on its ends by mountains and along its length by sand dunes
and the large marshy area which once was the celebrated
port of Patara.
